Fashion Focus: Vintage inspired Ad Campaigns for Spring/ Summer 2012

Spring/Summer 2012 Ad Campaigns seem to be on their full escapade with a great diversity of themes that encapsulate our desires for summertime along with first impressions of style inclinations for hot seasons of 2012. The most striking and recurring concept finds source in the vintage inspirations. Additionally, those vintage inspirations do not limit to only one decade but it is a procession of revivals with the 50s supremacy. You may find fashion brands’ exposing their key looks from Spring/Summer 2012 catwalk on imaginative and catchy  pictorials emphasizing the signature of the brand with fabulous top models. Here is the selection of my favourite vintage admired Ad Campaigns for Spring/Summer 2012 season:

Prada’s Spring/Summer 2012 Ad Campaign mesmerizes with 1950s pin up vibe and saturated colours both on the Prada apparels as well as retro surroundings of petrol station, classy vintage cars and azure sky. The top models: Kati NescherGuinevere van Seenus, Meghan CollisonNatasha PolyElise CrombezYmre Stiekema and Kathryn Kruger are transformed into sweet retro blondes and brunette ladies captured in the lens of Steven Meisel.

Jil Sander inspired by Hitchcock’s uncanny thrill for Spring/ Summer 2012 transforms Natasha Poly and Daria Strokous into the heroines of some creepy movie cleverly captured by Willy Vanderperre. Interesting concept merges with 50’s stimulated silhouettes in the eerie surroundings of a haunted house.

Dolce & Gabbana created a genuine imagery of Italian life, habits and customs inspired by Old Italian cinematography for Spring/Summer 2012 Ad Campaign. With magnificent, one of a kind Monica Bellucci and Italian beauty Bianca Balti, the womenswear pictorial depicts a hint of the traditional sense of matriarchy in the Italian “famiglia” captured by Giampaolo Sgura. The menswear line is the mastership of photography by Mariano Vivanco. The pictures portray the vibrations and rhythm of the day from Italian man point of view as seen in the iconic Italian movies of Mario Monicelli, Vittorio De Sica, Luchino Visconti and many other geniuses of Italian film making.View the whole Campaign herehere

Balmain with its French glam signature hits glam rock twist for Spring/Summer 2012 Ad Campaign. The top model Anja Rubik becomes a female metaphor of David Bowie’s artistic creations with slick back hair and opulent key looks from Balmain Spring/Summer 2012 catwalk. The acid colored, 3D inspired pictorial was captured by photographers’ duo – Inez  van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin.

As Marc Jacobs reported to WWD Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2012 Ad Campaign “is (…) very soft and sweet, yet at the same time very bold and very graphic”. This fashion story reveals the concept of Wonderland patisserie of 1950’s with the saturation of candy adorned interiors photographed by Steven Meisel.  The models, Daria Strokous and Kati Nescher dressed up in iconic lace and pastel outfits, look like the images from the dreamy carousel that Louis Vuitton presented during the delightful catwalk for Spring/Summer 2012 season. View the whole Campaign here

Dsquared2 for season Spring/Summer 2012 reminds us about bohemian freedom and hippie sense of style marching straight from the Woodstock festivals. So is the Summer 2012 Ad Campaign illustrating Natasha Poly together with her companions  on the gathering of rock’n’roll kids hanging out on the nature nook in the lens of Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.
Siviglia for their Spring/Summer 2012 Ad Campaign focused on the family life taken from 1950s. The model Isabeli Fontana stars as the house wife with retro vixen charm surrounded by husband and children. The pictorial signifies with specific diffusion of deemed colours that is the specialty of photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

The Ad pictorial for Spring Summer 2012 from Proenza Schouler is saturated with vintage vibes thanks to numerous factors. The retro colours are a composition of raffia textured background merged with tropical prints of the Proenza Shouler’s collection and the undisputable appeal of Natasha Poly captured in the lens of Willy Vanderperre.

Prada, apart from being a leader in trendsetting destinations, has also a very creative yet peculiar signature in the imagery field. The look books, ad campaigns, advertorials and designs have a specific, uncanny impact into the reality inserting quite abstract, at times grotesque visions of a style. The latest Prada imagery for the fall 2011 season – titled Fantasy – goes that way and is a fantasy indeed. It is like a psychedelic journey into the dreamy surrealism of a collage backdrop, with the mosaic nature of a photomontage and signature looks of Prada.
As the collection relates to the lady-like statement and immortal, vibrant inspirations of the 1960s, the lookbook invites you into the magical world of Wonderland framed into the collage pictures. With the implemented techniques of old school retouching the lookbook becomes a captivating clip art mixture of vintage vibes taken from the 60s revival with a genuine message.(…)
