Fashion Photography: “Sea Change” by Matthieu Belin for LIFE Magazine

Chinese fashion designer Qui Hao

“Full fathom five thy father lies,
Of his bones are coral made,
Those are pearls that were his eyes,
Nothing of him that doth fade,
But doth suffer a sea-change,
into something rich and strange,
Sea-nymphs hourly ring his knell,
Ding-dong.
Hark! now I hear them, ding-dong, bell.”

Poem by Shakespeare

The mysterious tranquility like the silence before the storm sets the vibe of “Sea Change” photographed by Matthieu Belin. Sustaining the intrinsic tension of the sea and its vulnerability to inconstancy, the theme balances between two worlds –  the metaphysical silence  and tough reality that put us against the storms. Like in the poems of Shakespeare we have to face the dualism of our existence – the world of perfection fulfilled in pure ideas and the struggle of real life that sometimes makes us impossible to live according the code of conduct.  Accompanied with the modern feel of Qui Hao‘s creation,  “The Sea Change” introduces us into the arcane tale with the sophisticated fashion message of ethereal fabrics in black deepness.

Special thanks to Matthieu Belin for help and assistance.
